Appa

Appa

Sky bisons are a race of 10-ton mammals capable of manipulating air currents to allow flight. They are large and powerful but move with grace. They helped the ancient Air Nomads develop airbending, though their numbers dwindled over time. Appa bonded with young Avatar Aang as a calf, and their destinies intertwined. After Aang was frozen for 100 years, they awoke to find the Air Nomads and sky bison populations devastated. Appa served as Aang and his friends’ mode of travel to save the world, remaining a loyal partner and friend.
