Ben Reilly - The Scarlet Spider

Created as the perfect clone of Peter Parker, the superhero known as Spider-Man, Ben Reilly had all of the powers and memories of the original. Thought dead by Peter, Ben set out on the road to forge a new identity for himself and eventually found it: The Scarlet Spider! Ben has enhanced physicals, a precognitive “spider sense”, the ability to adhere to surfaces, and web shooters that also fire impact webbing (pellets which expand into a cocoon upon impact) and stingers (needles with a paralytic neurotoxin). After 5 years travelling the world and getting into adventures, Ben returned to New York when he heard the news of Aunt May’s failing health. His arrival in New York thickened a complicated plot by Spider-Man’s villains to ruin Peter and Ben’s lives, and eventually both were convinced that Ben was actually the original and Peter was the clone. After fighting crime as the Scarlet Spider for a while, Ben eventually donned the mantle of Spider-Man with Peter’s blessing, settling in to what he believed to be his original life. Ben recalls this as the happiest time in his life, but it was not fated to last. After the Green Goblin revealed himself as the mastermind behind the plot against Peter, Ben sacrificed his life to save Peter’s. Moments after his death Ben’s corpse crumbled to dust, confirming once and for all that Peter truly was the original Spider-Man. While the original wall crawler set out with a new lease on life, death was only the beginning of the misery for his clone. The Jackal, the super villain who first created Ben, harvested Ben’s remains and resurrected him in a newly-cloned body. He then killed and resurrected Ben many times over before Ben finally broke free in a psychotic rage, ultimately setting out the become the new Jackal and cure the world of death. When his plans finally foiled, Ben returned to the guise of the Scarlet Spider and began a path of redemption for the fate of his soul. Aliases: The Scarlet Spider, Spider-Man, The Jackal.
