Bucky Barnes - the Winter Soldier

Childhood friend of Steve Rogers, James Buchanan ‘Bucky’ Barnes enlisted in World War 2, only to be captured and experimented on by HYDRA. While he was later rescued by Steve and became part of his Howling Commandos, he was once again lost on a mission after falling from a train into a valley, and while he survived thanks to his HYDRA enhancements it only led to his recapture by the organization. They further experimented on him, giving him a cybernetic arm and breaking his mind, turning him into a supersoldier assassin kept in cryostasis until HYDRA needed someone else eliminated, always ‘activated’ with a particular string of words. This continued throughout the decades until HYDRA overtook S.H.I.E.L.D., where Captain America managed to get through to Bucky, giving him enough pause to go off on his own and attempt to remember his old life. Bucky would later regain his memories but still find himself subject to HYDRA’s programming, electing to re-enter cryostasis in Wakanda until they could find a way to cure him.
