Davy Jones

Davy Jones is the immortal terror of the seven seas. Old squid face fell in love with the goddess Calypso in ancient times, so she granted him the powers of Jones to be able to stay with her forever. But he grew lazy, and shirked his duties after she stood him up. Calypso turned him into the cephalopod captain that roams the waters of the world. For that, he cursed her, and grew bitter. Now, he sinks any ship he comes across, and offers the sailors a choice. Join the crew, or see the inside of Davy Jones’ Locker. Jones met a certain Captain Jack Sparrow, and the rest is history.

Restrictions/Miscellaneous

• He can only step on land once every ten years, but apparently this rule can be bypassed (source)
• The Dutchman must have a captain. The Captain’s heart resides in the Dead Man’s Chest, for protection. Only one key can open it.
• If the current Captain is killed, a new one must take his/her place. The only way to truly kill Davy Jones is to stab his heart.
• The Flying Dutchman can dive below the waves for added speed or stealth. This means that Davy Jones likely doesn’t need to breathe, or as long as his heart is on land, he can breathe fine. (source)
• Jones is responsible for the keeping of Davy Jones’ Locker, a sort of purgatory for all souls that die.
• According to the wiki, Jones can simultaneously walk through the lands of the dead and the living.
