Dr. Octopus

Dr. Otto Octavius was a revered nuclear physicist responsible for the design of a machine that could create clean fusion and provide free, limitless energy to the world. Alongside his beloved wife Rosie, Octavius unveiled his project at Osborn Industries alongside his ‘assistants’ – four mechanical arms whose A.I. and connection with Octavius allowed him to contain the rapidly accelerating fusion reaction. But Otto miscalculated, and the experiment’s debut went horribly awry. The unstable fusion created an accident that fused Otto’s arms to his body while breaking the inhibitor chip containing the arms’ A.I. Combined with the traumatic event of witnessing Rosie’s death, Otto’s mind was warped into a violent obsession with recreating his experiment at any cost, and Dr. Octopus, or ‘Doc Ock,’ was born. The hero Spider-Man impeded Ock’s schemes, and the two clashed repeatedly before an electric shock and the wise words of the unmasked hero brought Ock back to his senses. As a final act of retribution Otto pulled his second fusion reactor atop him into a river, saving the world from its threat so he would not die a monster.
