As the heir to the Adrestian Empire’s throne, Edelgard fled as a child due to an insurrection, spent time in Faerghus, and returned to find her father weakened. She and her siblings underwent crest experimentation, with only she surviving, which turned her hair white and shortened her lifespan. This fueled her goal to overthrow Fódlan’s crest system and the Church of Seiros. She allied temporarily with her experimenters, planned a unification war as the Flame Emperor, entered Garreg Mach Monastery as head of the Black Eagle house, and was instructed by Professor Byleth. She orchestrated chaos, became emperor in Imperial Year 1180, declared war, reunited with Byleth post-skip, united Fódlan with the Black Eagle Strike Force, battled Rhea, and fought Those Who Slither in the Dark. Edelgard is ambitious, dignified, stoic, an excellent student and leader, but scheming and complex, driven to abolish nobility and crests through any means, believing ends justify brutal methods.
