Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones has had a pretty crap life. Her family growing up wasn’t happy really, though they put up appearances for her sake. She wouldn’t find out for years, because as far as she knew they all died in a car accident. Jessica only survived herself because of an experimental, non-consensual procedure that also gave her superpowers, forever othering her in the eyes of the public, labelling her a freak and a menace. After waking up to her entire family being gone, she was adopted by the Walkers, where she got to see the abusive and mentally unstabling life of a child star first hand. After quite the rough childhood, Jessica and her sister Trish managed to become well adjusted enough adults. Trish always pushed her to use her powers to do good, to become a superhero. Jessica tried it. Once. There she met Kilgrave, a sociopath with mind controlling abilities, who kept her under his thumb in an abusive relationship for 6 months. When she finally escaped, Jessica had had enough. She abandoned her dreams of superherodom and instead fell back on the one thing she was ever good at: digging up peoples’ dirt and pissing people off. She opened Alias Investigations, a private investigation firm, out of her crappy three room apartment. Now she spends all her time stalking cheating husbands, tracking down runaway teens, and occassionally getting mixed up with mortifying serial killers who have it out for her and always, always, always paying the price for it.

Other
- Jessica is the only person to develop an immunity to Kilgrave’s mind control. How or why is never explained, it could be whatever treatments IGH gave her, overexposure, or sheer willpower. However, Jessica claims it only happened after killing Reva, so it’s likely of the latter two. For reference, Kilgrave’s power works via emission of a virus. Even after he upgraded his power to be capable of controlling an entire hospital full of people, she was still able to defy him. - Claims that she heals faster than most. (source)
- Has a superhuman alcohol tolerance. (source)
