Landmaster

Landmaster

The Landmaster is the codename for Team Star Fox’s tank, designed by Slippy Toad and Space Dynamics Co., Ltd. Heavily armored and equipped with a laser cannon, this machine is used by Fox McCloud and his allies on planetary surfaces. It features a jet propulsion system for limited hovering and bursts of speed unmatched by other tanks in the Lylat System.

General

  • The Star Fox: 64 manual details its speed, armor and armaments (source) (64)
  • While sharing hull pieces with an Arwing, the Landmaster has stronger firepower (source) (NintendoPower)

Armor

  • Its armor protects against beams, energy blasts and bombs (source) (64)
  • Can be picked up and dropped by a giant mechanical weapon for minimal damage (source) (64)
  • Doesn’t seem to be meaningfully impeded when heavily damaged (source) (64)
  • After a large base self destructs and collapses, Fox barely escapes in a Landmaster, totaling the tank (source) (BelovedFalco)

Firepower - Cannon - Uncharged

  • Can fire rapid energy projectiles (source) (64)
  • Blasts can destroy large boulders in seconds (source) (64)
  • Single blasts can take down enemy aircraft (source) (64)
  • Repeated blasts can destroy large train cars (source) (64)
  • Shots can destroy the limbs of a large, skeletal alien (source) (64 3D)
  • After an extended battle, Fox destroys the giant Goras with a Landmaster (source) (64)

Firepower - Cannon - Charged

  • Can charge shots to fire a stronger, homing blast (source) (64)
  • Charged shots explode on contact, taking out surrounding aircraft (source) (64)
  • Charged shots can heavily damage or destroy large mechs (source) (64 3D)

Firepower - Cannon - Unknown

  • Destroys a section of falling rubble (source) (LylatWars)
  • Destroys the claw of a giant, alien creature with a plutonium-based blast (source) (LylatWars)

Firepower - Smart Bombs

  • Can launch Smart Bombs for massive damage and a large explosion (source) (64)
  • Smart Bombs produce a wide and destructive explosion (source) (64 3D)
  • A Nova Bomb blows a hole through a newly resurrected Andross, killing him (source) (BelovedFalco)

Mobility

  • Can perform barrel rolls for mobility or to dodge projectiles (source) (64)
  • Its boosters allow slowing drops from great heights, enabling unharmed drops from the Great Fox (source) (64)
  • Can hover briefly with its booster jets (source) (64)
  • Booster jets facilitate easier horizontal movement (source) (64)
  • Can use back-facing boosters to charge forward quickly (source) (64)
  • The jet boosters can carry the tank up into the sky to be picked up by the Great Fox (source) (64)
  • Jets are controlled enough to hover and back up into a waiting Great Fox (source) (64 3D)

Assault Model - General

  • The tank from Assault is lighter and features four wheels as opposed to treads (source)
  • Can be teleported into the battlefield by someone aboard the Great Fox (source)
  • Can ram forward in short bursts to attack enemies (source)
  • The wheels offer a unique degree of mobility (source)
  • Pilots can easily eject from the Landmaster and re-enter, assuming control immediately (source)
  • Used on the blizzard planet Fichina when Arwings aren’t capable of being used (source)
  • Additional context: Arwings aren’t capable of being used on Fichina (source)

Assault Model - Cannon

  • One blast can destroy alien beings called Aparoids (source)
  • Homing blasts still destroy most aircraft in one shot (source)
  • Can destroy a thick, metal door (source)
  • Used to destroy the Aparoid mothership, a large quadrupedal vessel (source)

Zero Model

  • One blast destroys a large chunk of rubble falling off of a stone arch (source)
  • A few blasts destroy an enemy tank (source)
  • This model can fire homing missiles as opposed to homing blasts (source)
  • Can target up to three enemies at once with homing missiles (source)
  • Can get struck or thrown by a giant alien creature (source)
  • Avoids being dragged into a massive sinkhole (source)
  • Can transform into the Gravmaster, an aircraft version of the Landmaster (source)
  • Gravmaster form is not suitable for space combat, unlike the Arwings (source)

Miscellaneous

  • Can send communication signals to ROB 64 and the Great Fox (source) (BelovedFalco)
