Ozai

Ozai

Born to the Fire Nation Royal Family, the power-hungry Ozai spent much of his younger days dreaming of gathering power. His father Azulon arranged his marriage to Ursa, whose bloodline included Avatar Roku. After his older brother Iroh abdicated his spot in the line of succession, Ozai schemed with Ursa to poison Azulon and ascend to the throne. As Fire Lord, Ozai was a cruel and uncompromising but industrious leader. He banished his own son after scarring him in a duel, oversaw immense technological expansion and industrialization, and nearly succeeded in harnessing the power of Sozin’s Comet to rule the world as the Phoenix King. Avatar Aang stopped Ozai in their final duel, removing Ozai’s bending and imprisoning him for life in the Fire Nation, allowing his banished son to reclaim the crown and begin repairing the world.

Physicals

  • Dove into the ocean and saved Zuko from drowning when Zuko was a child. (source) (TP)

  • Airblasted by Avatar State Aang a significant distance away and ragdolled before hitting a stone column and gets right up. (source) (S3E21, Sozin’s Comet)
  • Tackled by Avatar State Aang’s elemental sphere and airblasted through the air, but recovers and begins rocketing away. (source) (S3E21, Sozin’s Comet)

Firebending - Fireblasts

  • Charges up and releases a massive plume which sweeps through Wulong Forest to destroy a swathe of it. (source) (S3E20, Sozin’s Comet)
  • Blasts massive plumes of fire from his hands and mouth before releasing a radial blast Aang leaps over. (source) (S3E20, Sozin’s Comet)
  • Blasts through Aang’s stone defense, briefly knocking him out while sending him flying away. (source) (S3E20, Sozin’s Comet)
  • Begins blasting a boulder Aang wraps around himself, scorching the earth around the boulder and assaulting it repeatedly with curving blasts that move it around before using a charged up blast that tears through it. (source) (S3E20&21, Sozin’s Comet)

Firebending - Flight

  • Burns off his robes and flies from his airship toward Aang. (source) (S3E20, Sozin’s Comet)
  • Rockets out of the way of Aang’s boulder and matches Aang’s fireblast, creating an explosion visible from a significant distance away. (source) (S3E20, Sozin’s Comet)
  • Rockets away from Aang’s counterattacks while delivering several attacks of his own that are blocked by each of the four elements. (source) (S3E20, Sozin’s Comet)
  • Rockets toward Aang, flying so fast it sends up a shockwave from the water beneath him. (source) (S3E20, Sozin’s Comet)

Firebending - Lightningbending

  • Senses the end to an eclipse, generating lightning that Zuko redirects at him with an explosion that throws Ozai back. (source) (S3E11)
  • Creates colossal bolts of forking lightning that explode pieces of stone, which Aang evades. (source) (S3E20, Sozin’s Comet)
  • Fires lightning at Aang which Aang redirects, neglecting to target Ozai. (source) (S3E20, Sozin’s Comet)
