Roy Mustang

The Flame Alchemist, Roy Mustang is a state alchemist working for the military of Amestria. During the Ishvalan civil war the state alchemists were brought in to crush the insurgence through brutal means. Roy in particular was absolutely horrified by the atrocities he committed in that campaign, even being forced to execute a pair of doctors solely for treating the enemy troops. Afterwards he resolved that he would never follow unreasonable orders again, and to reach the highest position in the military he could in order to change the way the country was run. In the present day he is the commanding officer for the Fullmetal Alchemist Edward Elric, and proves to be a powerful ally (even if the two tend to butt heads a lot).
Flame Alchemy
- Alchemy requires input of materials equal in mass to the output and composed of similar matter. (source)
- Gloves made of ignition cloth produce a spark when snapped; uses transmutation circles on gloves to modify air’s oxygen content and create flames or explosions wherever desired. (source)
Flame Alchemy - Power
- Blows apart a huge stone ball. (source)
- Blows apart the side of a cliff with a match. (source)
- A sparing match against Edward devastates a cement battlefield. (source)
- Breaks a brick wall. (source)
- Causes Bradley’s whole body to explode. (source)
- Blows out a gun turret and then several more. (source) (CS)
- Blows out a gun turret. (source) (CS)
- Blows apart a large cannon. (source)
- Blows apart several suits of armor. (source) (CS)
- While power boosted by an incomplete philosopher’s stone, creates a massive explosion several stories tall. (source)
Flame Alchemy - Heat
- Melts metal and seals a door with a carved circle. (source)
- Potentially melts a human skull in seconds. (source)
- Possible that skull melting is due to Bradley dying and connection, though remains didn’t melt with Greed. (source)
Flame Alchemy - Control
- Lights a man leaping at him on fire in an intentionally non-lethal way. (source)
- Controls existing flames to wrap around and envelope Bradley. (source)
- Creates an explosion that sends several soldiers flying without killing them. (source)
- Inflates a hot air balloon. (source) (CS)
- Ignites the air inside of a hollow projectile. (source)
- Creates a wall of fire. (source)
Flame Alchemy - Speed
- A leaping man moves in slow motion compared to Mustang’s alchemy. (source)
- Ignites the air inside a projectile after it’s launched. (source)
- Roasts a man after he lifts his gun before he can fire. (source)
- Catches Ed by surprise with an explosion. (source)
- Rapid fires explosions. (source)
Flame Alchemy - Limitations
- Alchemy dependent on gloves; ignition cloth cannot produce spark if wet, but has workarounds. (source)
- Bradley sabotages flame control by altering air currents around the room. (source)
Flame Alchemy - Workarounds
- Keeps a number of spare gloves. (source)
- Can use an alternate source of ignition, such as a lit match. (source)
- Draws a transmutation circle on his hand in his own blood. (source)
Physicals - Strength
- Pulls out a sword pinning him to the wall. (source)
Physicals - Speed/Mobility
- Barely dodges several slashes from Bradley, though cut a few times. (source)
- Manages to get over a high wall. (source)
- Drops from a hot air balloon to a steep stone pathway and runs along it. (source) (CS)
Physicals - Durability/Endurance
- Slashed by Bradley and hit by his own explosion while unable to control it precisely. (source)
- Impaled against a wall by Bradley’s sword through the shoulder. (source)
- Pulls out the sword and keeps fighting after being impaled. (source)
- Shot in the face. (source)
- Comes out of being shot in the face with an eyepatch. (source)
Misc - Intelligence
- Manipulates things so that Ed and Al take out some terrorists and take the State Alchemist exam. (source)
- Possibly sent Edward on his first assignment to clear up corruption at the branch he was about to be transferred to. (source)
- Is aware of everything Ed was up to even before he gave his report. (source)
